Verse 1
Blessed be the God who spoke the word
That made first light break out
And through that Word made all things good
First man, first form, first mouth.
Blessed be the God who blessed that man
And gave Him first command
Who saddened saw him break first law
And voiced the curse that banned
Verse 2
Blessed be the God who spoke the law
Revealing wrong and right
Life guaranteed for those who heed
And death for law defied.
And blessed be Him who sent us seers
That cried out God’s great love
To never roam, to come back home
Awaiting word above.
Verse 3
Blessed be the God, O, bless His name!
He gave His Son as man
The word made flesh, His very best
But is is he blessed who breathed his last?
Can silent Word still save?
Yes! Three days passed, and then at last
The word burst from the grave!
Verse 4
Blessed be our Lord, now raised to rest
Upon the throne of grace
To hear our prayers and take our cares
‘Til He returns one day.
And on that day, my tongue will cry:
“Blessed be the One who cries!
His thundrous song makes right, breaks wrong!
